The Thucydides Trap: Innovation is a Sky Trap
A weekend this has been with plenty on the mind and plenty on the heart. Before I start this article, I just want to lay down a disclaimer. I’ve never been much of a history scholar, and for that matter, I’ve never really cared much for the subject at all. But it funny how relativity has becomes a thing here for me.
Today I find it like never before important for a revisit of history for which I feel asleep, skip class or failed to even purchase a book. I don’t however regret the decision, because i actually believe that the fresh perspective has done me well for an interpretation and deeper understanding for what’s really going on in our world today.
I was pressured for an deeper understanding of the US-China relations over the last few days and this is what I’ll share given the importance of this situation.
I’m a firm believer that war is not war until we MAKE it such. And while most wars have often devolved into the physicality of nature, the war of today is indeed a spiritual one, a subtle war, but yet necessary for a battle of spirits from a yesterday that remain seeking today a freedom beyond all that is binding of our circumstances.
The meeting between the powers of US and China, I imagined and too hope is directed for the case of this. Even so the rattling needs of an interpretive implementation throughout must be mined carefully for a successful deliverance and forwardness of this. Because without it even being said, I for one can’t forget, as none of us should, remember that each have their own ideals for a better of freedom and too the worst for its restriction.
But I have to admit, I’m quite impressed in the noting and the awareness brought forward for the existing of the TRAP by President Xi Jinping. This I believe goes a long way for goodwill.
With that, in the encouragement to look back into the war of Athens and Sparta and it became as clear as day for me that history is indeed hold potential to broadly repeat itself for better or worse give the opportunity.
As a quantum philosopher and innovator, my interpretation begins here:
As Athens grew in wealth, power and prestige, the Peloponnesian war began between Athens and Sparta with hostility growing amongst its leaders and eventually deciding that war, as we have come to know it was the only option. With each displaying its own advantageous strategy. Athens was inland on land and the Pericles strategic advantage derived from the sea. This is important for the philosophical reasons. I’ll try to explain here going forward.
Eventually, it was the Spartans who would march inland from the sea into Athens territory destroying their food supply as a plague swept through destroying a ⅓ of the population which now included a major devastation for both groups. This event would mark the beginning of the end, leading to a truce in 421 B.C. But unfortunately even this would not be the end of the war as nine years later, Athens and their allies would be forced to surrender devastatingly losing much its empire. power and wealth.
The war between Athens and Sparta offers some very interesting insights for understanding today and too some very important lessons given their strategies for a victory, as neither worked.
Here’s I'm going to share with you about the spin off events for deeper understanding toward innovation and why it in my opinion that in the here and now represents the catalyst for why innovation is the TRAP for toward freedom and not so much a war of a resistance. Resistance is yesterday’s war.
My interpretation of The Thucydides Trap is the Trap of Innovation, a more subtle and yet Powerful one. but one indeed. In a strange yet ironic way, innovation here today like no other time in history stands outside of both (Athens and Sparta) strategic approach, not so much as a trap but a way toward freedom. Because freedom here represents what I understand is the (Out) door.
But word “trap” stands out here because more often than not, we all tend to understand the term in the darkness of a restriction and not the freedom of a light. But strangely enough too innovation here today is the darkness that must be understood (removed from restrict) for and as the compliment for the (fixing) of the light.
And more importantly, a freedom to (decide) which way is…well for now lets just call it OUT. But what is OUT. Out is a direction for a healing of spiraled and bounded souls and today all of of us must find its way to prevent the stagnation of progress that renders us suspended.
Because the Spirit of Freedom WILL BE.
Before I share with you why this important now? I want to reference two other critical events and how innovation is strategically centered for the need of a healing, presently but well continued into the future of humanity.
I had the opportunity to touch of the motives of the Red Guard, as the subject of slavery was already fully understood as a Black woman.
In my investigation here, I had to ask myself: How does the Red Guard in China and Slavery in America play into this scenario? How are they similar and how are they different. This is what I got and I won’t go into a lot of detail because it’s a lot to process in a blog post.
The Red Guard
The Red Guards, 20-30 million strong were students and teenagers who pledged their support to Chairman Mao Zedong and a Cultural Revolution, killing and destroying any and everything non-Maoist in their way. They took down buildings, lives and lashed out at professors, government officials, factory managers and parents. They were destructive in their own sense and would eventually be exiles by Mao who too would turned against them. But what is important to note here is that they turned against intellectuals, colleges and schools and banned them to be “purified” by hard labor. Imagine that, to be full of mind and consciousness and restricted of a balance to evolve. But the irony here on the other side too is to look deeper into what happened here with slavery in America.
Slavery:
In the China, what the Red Guards did to intellectuals and making them work hard labor and dividing the population who they considered were the life of the mind, considering them useless and dangerous was really no different than what slave owners did on the plantations in America as they were bonded in body from freedom as a similar reflection of human devolution. Here it was too that slave owners also separated their light skinned slaves from the fields into house slaves thinking them less dangerous while restricting the dark skinned slaves to working in the fields.
The only difference is that one sought to bind the Mind and the other sought to bind the body and today the mix of both as the intermingling of how we exist in this world reflects the very change that we now need to prevent history in ignorance from repeating itself. If we all lose this point of perspective we plunge into the same danger and unfortunately, the mistake of no return for humanity. Awareness offers healing and too, the prevention of falling into the same trap if you will.
So when you think about all of this from today’s perspective, much like yesterday, it was all based in the need to progress economically, JUST like what we have going on today with innovation and its stagnation of progress. There’s much the remains to be said here. (another post, another time) The Trap is the existential risk for today’s technological innovation.
Except today the innovation lies outside both Athens or Sparta as strategic approaches today.
Today’s the need for an effective strategy is still evident and necessary as we are reversibly intermingled in a sense as America and China both seeks to move forward on strategy innovation and trade. The recognition of this along with correcting the course of innovation empowers today’s leadership to change direction for a spin off and finding a new way for real effective collaboration. This where I found it a “powerful stance of recognition” to just mention this place in war history.
Our choice today given where we are for the technological progression of innovation alone is indeed a TRAP, yet one for an empowerment the fixed and determined position of decision to come to the table, avoid war as we’ve always known and to March forward and higher into the Door of Freedom.
#QuantumRising is where we must meet for understanding at the Crest of the Wave and too for a View of the Sky.
